Quality, Safety and Reliability
Without Compromise

Setting the Benchmark for Transport Solar

Commercial vehicles operate in some of the toughest environments – constant vibration, fluctuating temperatures, road spray, humidity and intensive daily use. This combination of environmental factors place unique demands on onboard technology.

At Genie Insights, every transport solar solution is engineered and selected specifically for these conditions. Our systems are rigorously tested against internationally recognised standards to ensure they deliver reliable performance, integrate seamlessly with modern vehicle electronics and minimise operational risk throughout their service life.

We are confident that no other vehicle-integrated photovoltaic (VIPV) solar solution on the market can match the breadth of testing, certification and compliance credentials achieved by Genie Insights.

System-Level Assurance

Every Genie Insights solar kit is designed and assembled to comply with applicable European product regulations and environmental requirements. For a fleet operator, that means a system you can specify with confidence: one that has been engineered to recognised benchmarks rather than assembled from unproven parts, so the assurances below apply to the kit as a whole, not just to individual components.

CE Marking

CE marking confirms that applicable components meet relevant European requirements for safety, electromagnetic compatibility and environmental protection. It is your shortcut to peace of mind – a single, recognised mark that signals the product has been assessed against the standards European regulators expect, removing the guesswork when you are comparing suppliers.

Environmental Testing

Our systems are validated for operation in demanding vehicle environments, including:

  • Temperature testing from -40°C to +75°C
  • Humidity testing between 10% and 85%

This helps ensure dependable performance across all seasons and operating conditions. Whether your vehicles are working through a winter cold snap or sitting in summer heat, the system keeps charging – so your batteries stay topped up and your drivers are not left waiting on auxiliary power when they need it most.

Environmental Compliance

Our solutions comply with:

  • WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU – supporting responsible end-of-life collection and recycling. Solar panel covered by registration number WEE/MM1397AA and charge controller by WEE/MM3408AA
  • RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU, as amended by Directive (EU) 2015/863 – restricting hazardous substances in electrical equipment
  • REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 – ensuring the safe use and management of chemical substances

These measures help protect people, vehicles and the environment. They also protect your business: choosing equipment that already meets WEEE, RoHS and REACH obligations supports your own sustainability reporting and helps you demonstrate responsible procurement to customers and regulators alike.

Proven for Life on the Road

Commercial vehicles experience constant movement, vibration and shock. Our core system components undergo testing in accordance with:

  • EN 60068-2-6 – vibration testing
  • EN 60068-2-27 – mechanical shock testing

These standards verify that components can withstand the demands of real-world transport applications, helping to reduce failures and minimise downtime. Every breakdown is a vehicle off the road and an unplanned cost. Components proven to handle years of constant vibration and impact mean fewer roadside call-outs and a lower total cost of ownership over the life of the fleet.

Solar Panels: Construction-Grade Performance

Our UK-manufactured CIGS solar panels originated in the building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) sector, bringing construction-grade durability and proven performance to commercial vehicles. These are panels originally engineered to sit on the roofs and facades of buildings for decades – so when they are fitted to a vehicle, you are starting from a far higher baseline of resilience than panels designed for lighter-duty use.

Quality Management

Our manufacturing partner operates under internationally recognised quality management system ISO 9001:2015, ensuring consistency, traceability and continuous improvement. In practice this means the panel you receive today is built to the same exacting standard as the one you ordered last year, and the one you will order next – predictable quality you can scale a fleet around.

Performance and Safety

  • IEC 61215: Validates long-term module performance and durability through rigorous environmental stress testing.
  • IEC 61730: Confirms photovoltaic module safety, covering electrical, mechanical and fire protection requirements.

Together, these standards provide confidence that the panels are designed to perform safely and reliably throughout their operational lifetime. The energy you are paying for on day one is energy you can still count on years down the line, with the safety margins to match.

Fire Safety

Our panels comply with recognised fire testing standards, including:

  • CEN/TS 1187:2012 – test methods for external fire exposure to roofs
  • BS EN 13501-5:2016 – fire classification of roofs and roofing products
  • UL 790 – roof covering fire resistance testing
  • BS EN ISO 11925-2:2020 – ignitability testing under direct flame exposure

These certifications demonstrate that our panels meet stringent fire performance requirements. Because these are construction-grade fire classifications rather than the minimum expected of typical solar products, they offer real reassurance when panels are mounted directly above a cab, cargo or passengers.

Bonding and Adhesion

The integrity of a bonded solar installation is critical. Our panel systems undergo adhesive performance testing using industry-recognised methods, including:

  • ASTM D1002 – lap shear strength testing
  • ASTM D903 – peel resistance testing

Combined with approved bonding processes and high-performance structural adhesives, this helps ensure secure, long-lasting installations and panels that stay put at motorway speeds and through years of weather.

MPPT Charge Controllers: Engineered for Vehicle Integration

Our MPPT charge controllers are designed specifically for demanding transport environments. The charge controller is the brain of the system, and on a vehicle it has to work harmoniously alongside sensitive electronics – which is why ours are certified for exactly that job rather than adapted from off-grid or domestic use.

Electromagnetic Compatibility

UNECE Regulation No. 10 (ECE R10) confirms electromagnetic compatibility with vehicle electrical systems and supports integration within EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval requirements. This helps ensure the controller operates reliably without causing interference with critical vehicle systems. For manufacturers and converters, this is the difference between a component that drops straight into a type-approved build and one that puts approval at risk – protecting braking, steering and telematics systems from interference, and saving you the cost and delay of proving compliance yourself.

Environmental Protection

IP67 Rated – Provides complete protection against dust ingress and temporary immersion in water. Road spray, washdowns and damp storage are everyday realities for commercial vehicles – an IP67 controller simply shrugs them off, with no enclosure or special mounting required.

Connectors and Cables: Reliable Connections Matter

The performance of any solar system depends on the quality of its connections. Our connectors and cables comply with recognised photovoltaic standards, including:

  • IEC 62852 / EN 62852 – safety requirements for photovoltaic connectors
  • EN 50618 – performance and durability requirements for photovoltaic cables

Environmental Protection

With IP68-rated connectors, our systems deliver reliable operation even in harsh outdoor conditions, helping to prevent water ingress, corrosion and premature failures. That means the energy your panels generate actually reaches the battery, year after year, rather than being lost to a corroded joint you cannot see.

Quality Management Throughout the Supply Chain

While the standards and certifications referenced throughout this page relate to specific products, components and test programmes, they are brought together within Genie Insights’ ISO 9001-certified Quality Management System.

ISO 9001 provides the framework that governs how we evaluate suppliers, select components, manage product changes, maintain traceability, document processes and continually improve our solutions.

It ensures that quality is not confined to individual products but is embedded throughout the entire lifecycle of every system we supply.

For our customers, this means confidence that the same disciplined approach applied to testing, certification and compliance is also applied to the way we design, build, deliver and support our transport solar solutions.
