How Durable are Solar Panels on Commercial Vehicles?
Commercial vehicle solar panel durability is particularly important because vehicle-mounted solar technology operates in a very different environment from conventional stationary solar installations.
Vehicle-Integrated Photovoltaics (VIPV) are exposed to continuous vibration, mechanical shock, changing temperatures, weather and the everyday demands of commercial fleet operation. For this reason, durability and appropriate product testing are important considerations when selecting a vehicle solar system.

Genie Insights uses lightweight, flexible CIGS solar technology specifically suited to vehicle integration.
Unlike conventional rigid solar panels, our panels have a glass-free, shatter-resistant construction. Their thin, flexible design allows them to follow the contours of the vehicle surface and avoids the use of a rigid glass panel that could crack or shatter.
But physical construction is only part of the picture.
Tested for Vibration and Mechanical Shock
Key components within our vehicle solar systems, including both the solar panel and charge controller, have undergone independent vibration and mechanical shock testing to assess their ability to withstand the forces experienced in mobile applications.
Testing subjects the panel to controlled vibration and shock conditions before functional testing is completed to confirm that it continues to operate as intended.
This provides additional assurance that the technology is suitable for use in the demanding environment of a working commercial vehicle.
